Once plagued by frequent floods, the Yellow River floodplain has today turned into fertile farmland. In Changxingji Township of Dongming County, Heze, harvesters shuttle back and forth across high-standard farmland. The roar of machinery composes a movement of bumper harvests. The Yellow River floodplain has achieved a magnificent transformation from a "flood-prone land" to "fertile granary soil". Its abundant fruits bear witness to the confidence that the Chinese people firmly hold their rice bowls in their own hands.

In the past, China faced tight grain supply and substantial pressure on food security. Located on the Yellow River floodplain, Changxingji Township in Dongming County suffered from recurring Yellow River floods. Poor land production conditions meant farming relied entirely on the weather. After years of development and renovation, the floodplain land has gained a new lease of life. Changxingji Township boasts a total land area of 124,000 mu. Since 2019, it has steadily pushed forward the construction of high-standard grain farmland, with 63,000 mu completed to date, yielding nearly 500 million jin of grain annually. Flat, fertile farmland and well-matched agricultural facilities safeguard the livelihoods of farmers on the floodplain and secure people’s food supply.

Looking at Heze as a whole, grain production keeps delivering impressive results. The city’s total grain output has exceeded 16.3 billion jin for three consecutive years, ranking first in Shandong Province in grain production capacity. The summer grain harvest of 2026 brought new good news. The city’s 9.759 million mu of wheat achieved a "three increases" in planting area, per-unit yield and total output. Agricultural mechanization has reached new heights, with both the wheat machine harvesting rate and corn machine sowing rate exceeding 99.9%. Modern agricultural machinery races across the vast fields. The continuous expansion of high-standard farmland and technology-enabled agricultural production lay a solid foundation for stable and increased grain yields.

Floodplain converted to fertile land guarantees bumper harvests. Relying on Yellow River floodplain management and high-standard farmland development, Heze continuously consolidates the foundation for grain production, enabling land once ravaged by floods to steadily produce "Chinese grain". The rumble of harvesters is the new-era harvest horn of the Yellow River. Every plump grain not only fills the dining tables of thousands of households but also forms the solid grassroots foundation for national food security. By protecting farmland and growing grain well, Heze is contributing the strength of southwestern Shandong to fortify the national food security defense line through consistent and stable grain harvests.
